It was so COSI... haha get it? Cozy?

COSI, what does that even mean? Just wondering aloud, if anyone has an answer for it that would be grrrrrreat. I enjoyed this week’s meal. Reason: President Simon eats there. As I was waiting for E May and our special guests Emma Donnay and Emma Rector, (pictured below) our president was walking out of COSI and she looked satisfied.

So COSI has star power. This week I got the BBQ pizza and it was pretty good. It was topped with chicken, BBQ sauce, red onion, and cilantro. Overall it was a good pizza (8 little bit sized slices). My only complaint was the cilantro. Whoever made it went a little cilantro crazy. I think that is a powerful spice and it took away from the other flavors. It was so strong that I had to pick it off my pizza. The atmosphere was again hectic, but that was due to the lunch hour rush. Go there at any other time he you are guaranteed a seat. I am actually pretty partial to their set up. They had these couch things which were very comfortable to sit on. When there aren’t tons of people in there the couches make the atmosphere very relaxing.
The moment you’ve been waiting for:

Place: COSI
Time: 12:10pm
Date: October 6
Food: BBQ Chicken Pizza (8 mini rectangle slices)
Value: 2 (COSI is expensive. I paid around 7 bucks for my mini pizza)
Service: 5 (The service was too legit for a little sammich shop. They were very helpful and polite. I asked them what I should get and they were very helpful when it came to making my decision. The lady also asked if I wanted to refill my bottle of water. They also offer free refills on pop and lemonade. Which is awesome because lemonade is apparently expensive)
Taste: 3 (Too much cilantro)
Time: 4.5 (It was busy and I got my food fairly quickly)
Presentation: 4 (Take a look and tell me that doesn’t look yummy)

Avg: 3.7

10 things i love about cosi:
numba one: they have delicious food and it is fresh and wonderful and has great flavor!
numba two: FREE FLATBREAD SAMPLES. WARM, DELICIOUS, FLATBREAD!!!!
numba three: lovely little mojito (sans alcohol) lemonades!
numba four: it was so cosi (hehe play on words) and had such a lovely atmosphere. comfy little couches and cute tables.
numba five: frequency card! i love these babies on account of the free reward at the end!
numba six: the nice guy at the counter! the last time i went and this time i got the same guy. he is so nice and jolly! he also likes to make legit suggestions so if you are confused about what to get you can ask him and he will hook you up! and he said my name! he was like emma do you need your receipt? and i was like no but using my name makes me feel special!
numba seven: the chance of running into fun people! last time i was here i saw my prof from freshman year (she gave me a hug) and this time i saw my student supe from freshman year (she didnt remember me at all!)
numba eight: they bring you your food. i like being able to sit. lets face it, i am lazy. this is nice.
numba nine: location: free parking down the street! across from the places all of my classes take place (haha i mean, most of the things on gr qualify as this but whatever)
numba ten: one tv. at least only one that i saw. i like this aspect because it is like enough to look at for a bit but not distracting and annoying!

anddddddd drumroll..... ratings!

place: cosi
time: 12:10pm
date: october 6
what i got: pesto chicken melt with white flatbread (no multigrain for me!). raspberry mojito lemonade. chips.
value: sad to say but cosi is a little tough on the wallet. i am giving it a 2.5.
service: 4.5. I LOVE MY CASHIER! and they bring the food to you, that part is nice! i didnt leave them a tip, i am sure you could and maybe should but since it is so expensive, i dont.
taste.....bum bum bum MY FIRST 5. yes ladies and gentlemen, it happened. i am strictly referring to my sammich and my lemonade, maybe not the chips (they are good but not a 5). my pesto chicken thing was warm and had great flavor. i loved it.
time: 4, for as busy as it was, they brought my food out in good time. not lightening fast but fairly quickly!
presentation: 4. the lemonade is so pretty! but everything else is fairly simple, their plates are kind of fun and metal-y.

avg: 4

i would just say that it was quite a bit busy i am chalking this up to the fact that it was noon on a weekday everyplace is busy at that time. and when it is busy it tends to be loud. HOWEVER, i enjoyed my company as the three emmas united and ryan came too haha.

the end (youre welcome for the lack of doctor stories, i realize now that i should not necessarily include those so buh bye)

Feeding our Potbellys

Mmmmmm Potbelly I have yet to be disappointed at this place. So instead of doing the weirdest and most popular food item we just picked two random sammiches. Mine was the pizza sub. Now if you haven’t noticed I like big amounts of food. I want tons of meatballs, I want tons of cheese, I want tons of fries! So when I ordered this I was expecting tons of pepperoni. Lo and behold I got like 4 pepperonis. Normally this would bother me but I was distracted by the mushrooms. I hate mushrooms. I don’t like the texture it just feels weird. But for that sammich the planets aligned and I did not (AAAAHHHH!! A ginger just walked by! Ok he’s gone… never make eye contact they can steal your soul) get grossed out by them. I think it was the Italian seasoning. It was good it added to the overall experience. Size wish the sammich wasn’t very big. I would say 10 inches (you know what else is 10 inches... my foot! Where did you think I was going with that? Bunch of perverts). The atmosphere was hectic. The reason why was free Pita day at the Pita Pit. I think there were about 258 people outside. All just for a free Pita, no thanks I’m not waiting that long for a free pita. So it was hectic in Potbelly’s because people saw the line and beelined for Potbellys. There was also a dude in the corner playing his guitar. His music was pretty good, but I didn’t go to Potbellys to listen to him croon for the ladies. I was hungry I wanted to eat and get back to my internship. Plus Emma kept swooning over him so all I had to hear, “that boy is cute!”
Place: Potbellys
Time: Noon on a Tuesday
Food: Pizza Sub
Value: 3.5 (4.40 for a 10 incher)
Service: 3 (I attribute it to the lunch hour rush)
Taste: 4 (mushrooms for the save)
Time: 4.5 (Freaky fast freaky good… wrong place)
(New Rating) Presentation: 3 (I mean it’s a sub)
Avg: 3.6
Overall Recommendation: This place is legit. If you ever want to get in and get a quick sammich go here.

hmmm potbelly.

let me start out by saying....we went to potbelly on free pita pit pita day. so the line for pita pit wrapped around the block right by potbelly. crazy. also, as a sidenote, HOW IN THE WORLD DOES PITA PIT MAKE MONEY OFF OF FREE PITA DAY??? seriously? yeah yeah as if they get more people to come by giving out free things, it doesnt seem to add up in my head.

also my prof just swore in class then said "sorry i cussed" hahahahahahhahahahahha. (NO IM NOT WRITING THIS IN CLASS!)

anyways......

i am not one to stand in line for free food for more than 30 mins. therefore the original plan of potbelly still stood.

i was starving when i walked in there and ended up being full and satisfied. however, the food wasn't anything spectacular, the menu is a typical sandwhich shop. therefore, it is a good place to eat but if you were trying to impress someone with a fancy and wonderful msu place…id pass on potbelly.

you have choices of multigrain or white bread (WHITE all the way! multigrain? psssh who wants to be healthy) and all of their sandwiches are “typical”. although, they do have a peanut butter and jelly one YUM YUM! they also have those giant pickles in a jar so all of those who aspire to be snooki should go here to get your pickles.

place: potbelly
time: noon
date: september 29
what i got: meatball original, chocolate brownie cookie, sour cream and onion chips, coke.
value: giving it a 4. everything is generally well priced.
service: 3.5. not much interaction with the people, but they are friendly!
taste: 4.5, my meatball sandwich was warm and delicious! and my chocolate brownie cookie things was SO good.
time: 4. food is ready fairly quickly!
and for the new rating! presentation: 3.5 nothing fancy. just straight up sandwich, i really like the way they wrap the food up and cut the sandwich in half so it is a bit easier to eat =]
avg: 3.9

overall i liked it! i want to restate that these opinions are subjective so i rate based on what i think it should taste like. does that make sense?

anyways...atmosphere...this place was hopping! they had an adorable boy singing and playing his guitar. i think he made lunch more enjoyable. and ryan loved me talking about him the whole time!

it was pretty busy in there, but we got there RIGHT before the rush so we didn't have to wait very long anddddd we got a table.

i like that they have fun drinks like in a bottle as well as fountain pop...that is cute. the place itself has charm which is always nice, cozy...i think that is the word i want.

my word of advice...get the choco brownie cookie. no, really. get it. especially if you just went to a traumatic dr. appt. you wanna hear what happened??? skip past the next paragraph if you dont care....

EMMAS TRIP TO THE DOCTOR: i had to go up to the woman at the desk, IN FRONT OF A FULL WAITING ROOM. and say..."um excuse me, there are not cups for a urine sample in the bathroom" yeah. that was just part of my fun trip to the doctor. (inappropriate for a food blog? OH WELL.)

sooo whatchu think??? any comments? who wants to go where and when you wanna go? we are open to you and your free time.

anyone want to start funding this project ;]]

tell all your friends about this, especially ones who want to give me money for my thoughts =] ha just kidding (but really)

i love you people. you keep me young.

Sushi Go... more like Sushi Gag

have you ever thought back to a time and place in your life and been like.... omg i am so glad i dont have to go back there!

well that is quite literally how i feel about sushigo. sushi go? whatever.

first off let me tell you..... we went on a lovely summer day with jmurph and erector and i was all like....yay! these people rock! i just got back from camp! i am welcoming new food into my life. so i had a wonderful attitude about the whole thing.... well anyways...

we were the ONLY people in there. four people. that is it. so there was one waiter guy working and then the little lady making the sushi. i can respect that it takes a long time to make sushi for four people when you are doing it by yourself. i can definitely respect that.

HOWEVER. my sushi was cold! this would be fine if it was supposed to be cold but it was that deep fried stuff... a tempora california roll and that is supposed to be some deep fried goodness. so i mean, whatever it was cold. but it took FOREVER to get to us. my tummy hurts thinking about how long it took to get to us.

ALSO there was a giant and disgusting bug on the floor crawling around like he owned the place, which i wouldnt be surprised about because no one would go to a sushi place owned by a bug.

so ok fine here are the ratings....

value: mmmm 3...sushi is expensive, i guess it wasnt more or less expensive than any other sushi place that i have been to.
service: 3. the boy took a long time to get us our drinks and it took a long time to get our food.
taste: 4.
time: 1.
avg: 2.75

further comments: pop in a bottle. hate that. get a fountain please!

I will not claim that I am any sort of Sushi connoisseur so my review it’s going to be heavy on the taste. I’m gonna focus on everything else. As Emay said, the jubilant Jaclyn Murphy and the enigmatic Emma Rector (See what I did there :D) joined us on this excursion. So from the get go this looked like an awesome time. We walk in and I’m pretty sure I heard a few crickets… the place was dead! D-E-D! (Quote from a show no one probably watched because it was cancelled after the first 3 episodes) We sit down and they guy takes our order. So I’m thinking I gonna get my pop fairly quickly. No it took like 6 or 7 minutes. Eff that! I should haven’t gotten my pop in 2 mins flat. So we order our food. I’m pretty sure I got tempura Cali roll and the tempura shrimp roll. Can’t really matter because it didn’t taste all that great. As we are sitting there a bug crawls by my foot.  The little guy crawls away and I’m thinking great I’m gonna get that sucker in my food. To my surprise the food was decent. As I said I’m no sushi expert and I really don’t know the difference between good and bad sushi. All and all I do not recommend this place. The food took forever to get to us. Usually not a problem but when there are only 4 people in there, it should be in my belly by then. So there’s our review of the crappy arse sushi place. Next on the chopping block… you decide! Tell us where to go in the comments below \/! (Oh PS I stand by my Noodles review… it sucked straight up)
Service: 2
Taste 3.5
Time:1
Value: (Kinda tough to rate since we did this one awhile ago. But from now on we will be putting the price up in hurr) 3

Oodles and Oodles of Noodles!

oh now we get to the real stuff!!!! are you people ready for our review of noodles and company?

first off i would like to preface this by saying that i quite enjoy this place. it is my good friend emily and my date place. we got dinner together every week here my freshman year. fond memories! and of course my bestest frand bradlaaaay works here and it was a delight to see him on this day.

ok, down to business. there are four things we give a number rating on so 5 would be the absolute best, it surpassed my expectations, couldnt have been more amazing. a 1 (or...gasp! a 0) would be absolutely awful, never coming back.

so with that in mind!

date: august 31
time: 2:30pm
place: Noodles and Company

emma: penne rosa with parm. chicken AND a roll
value: 3
service: 5
taste: 4
time: 5
avg: 4.25

comments: hmmm i am not gonna lie, not my favorite dish here! i definitely like japanese pan noodles better. it had a weird sauce that wasn't my favorite. the parm chicken is a way good idea though, it is crusty with cheese and yummy things...so good! but.... LOVE LOVE LOVE their rolls. they are so warm and delicious! i used to get flat bread but that was before i was exposed to the warm lovely goodness of the ciabatta roll =] overall, i would recommend this place to people. i love that they don't accept tips cause i mean we are poor college kids! also everyone who works there is super nice. as far as the atmosphere goes, hmm it was very busy when we went i am guessing cause it was welcome week. the busyness made it loud so i wouldnt go here if you wanted to get some serious talking done. although, if your talking was gossip and you wanted lots of noise to drown out the potential of others hearing you.... this place is ideal! oh and i want them to get different chairs. ♥ emay

ryan: spaghetti and meatballs with spicy marinara.

value: 2
service: 5
taste: 2.5
time: 5
avg: 3.625

comments: Okay I'll tell you straight up I'm not a fan of Noodles and Co and Imma tell you why. My score up here /\ does not reflect how I truly feel about it. So I ordered the most popular item on the menu: spaghetti and meatballs w/ spicy marinara. I was pretty excited for this because I'm 1/4 Italian and I love a' to eat!! So whenever I get the chance to eat some pasta I'm jazzed. The service there was really good. The cashier was peppy and helpful. The 'waiter' (I guess you can call him that) was also really helpful. So service easy 5. Time also was an easy 5. We sat down and within 5 minutes we had our food. Which shocked me because there were like 158 people in there. So if someone can get this fatty food in five minutes they are deserving of recognition. Once the food hit, that's when my happiness began to wane. What set off this downhill spiral was how much I paid for and for how little I got. Take a look at this pic...

That's more sauce than anything! And there are like 4 meatballs in there! I call bull crap. When I get spaghetti and meatballs I get like 8 or 9 meatballs. After looking at my food for a few minutes I finally decide to take a bite. I was overwhelmed with mundane taste. The noodles were kinda dry and the sauce wasn't very spicy at all. I was very disappointed. My Gma's spaghetti would run circles around this bland bowl that sits in front of me. I digress, maybe I have to high of standards what do you think?

(To answer a few questions. Ricks is crossed off the list... I don't know what we were thinking on that one! And yes you may join us on these excursions!)

Ready... Set... Eat!

So you may be wondering why the eff is there a blog about us eating food at Michigan State University. Well the number one reason: We're fat and we like food. Our second reason: we want to brag about all of the awesome food we are going to eat over the year. Our third reason: Emma Maylen and I are quite an entertaining duo. Legit... we think we are funny and that's all that matters. So stop with your hater-aide!

Our goal is to eat at every resturant at MSU from Harrison to Hagadorn (Hence the reason for our title... witty I know... thanks for noticing)! We have one full academic year to complete our quest. Let's lay some ground rules. Our first rule we can only go to a restuarant once. Ex: Once we eat at Peking Express we will not be able to eat there again until we are finished eating everywhere else. Second rule we have to order something we have never had before. Ex: If I'm at Peking Express and they have octopus eggs on the menu you can bet your arse that I will order them. Our third rule is that we have to have an awesome time doing it.

So there are the ground rules. They are informative and enlightening. We will also be giving a review of what we ate and we will provide a star rating. One star being sucky and 5 stars being epically awesome. We will be posting the deets on that shortly, so stay tuned.

Now where should we eat first?
